CatNappers is a trap, neuter, return program for feral cats in Albany, Georgia and surrounding areas. Feral cats are cats that have lost contact with humans for a variety of reasons. They may have been abandoned by owners in moves, they may have wandered and become lost, or they may have been discarded simply because the owner didn't want the responsibility. When this happens they learn to live by their wits and instincts and usually find food sources in places that sustain their lives. If left unaltered these cats will begin to reproduce until their numbers increase dramatically and they become a problem. Kittens born to cats that have reverted to feral become increasingly feral or wild and undomesticated. In reality these cats should come to be known as Community Cats because some people in the community are responsible for the deplorable conditions within which they live. Because of that it's now up to people in the community to take care of the problem.
It's not uncommon for people to think that only the female needs to be spayed, when in truth, males are the other half of the problem. Neutering a male keeps a female from producing offspring, so they are equally important when cats are being spayed or neutered. Many people don’t think of it that way however and leave the males to roam. When these cats of both sexes are altered the colony no longer reproduces, they begin to reduce in number and there are far fewer cats that will become innocent victims of euthanasia through no fault of their own. They've been called "Born to Die" cats.
This low cost spay and neuter program in Albany and surrounding areas is for colonies that have committed caretakers who tend to their needs of food, water and shelter on a daily basis. CatNappers is not a shelter nor are we animal control. We do not relocate cats after trapping, they are returned to familiar territory that they have come to know as home. Relocating cats is a difficult and time consuming procedure that we are not equipped to handle.
Although we work primarily with ferals, we are adamant advocates of spay and neuter for all pets. If pets aren't altered, this is where our problems begin and why we are doing what we do. Today we have not only strays and ferals who need help but now extreme numbers of animals are being abandoned in what is called "foreclosure pets". Their nightmare is just beginning. Some are dumped at shelters and others are dumped outside. Neither outcome is favorable, chances of adoption are slim and chances that they will survive are slim as well, unless someone finds the poor animal and has the heart to take care of it.

If this is a cause dear to your heart you may donate through our paypal button or you may make a donation by check to: Catnappers P O Box 71203, Albany, Georgia 31708. Even the smallest amounts make a great difference in a homeless cat's life. We thank you and the animals thank you for making a difference in their lives.
This collection of videos shows the irresponsibility of some pet owners. Because of them it's up to other people to fix the problem. Some of these videos can be hard to watch but it's reality and if you turn your head you are part of the problem. Animals shouldn't have to live like this. Please Spay and Neuter your pets, they can't do it themselves. Cats and dogs are dying in shelters while more are being "born to die" every day by the hundreds, by the thousands. They deserve so much better than this. You can give them another chance at life. They make the most grateful companions.
